Republicans start pushing through limits on COVID-19 vaccine mandates as Democrats object

Under questioning from Democrats, the sponsor of the bill, Sen. Danny Burgess, R-Zephyrhills, admitted it would only apply to current employees, not new hires. But he also defended the measure as necessary to protect workers, including frontline health care and emergency officials who worked throughout the pandemic, from being fired for refusing the vaccine.
