New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was forced to grit his teeth and endure what must be one of the cruelest moments in sport.
The Black Caps had just been belted by Australia by eight wickets in the final of the Twenty20 World Cup.
Williamson – one of the nicest guys in international cricket – was speaking to media after watching his World Cup dream go up in smoke.
But the press conference was interrupted by the raucous celebrations by the Aussie team right next door.
“Australia played really, really well, and you can hear them celebrating next door,” Williamson said with a grin.

“And rightly so. They had a fantastic campaign. They’re a team full of amazing players and they really stood up today.”
He’s not the first person to have to endure the awkward moment, and he won’t be the last.
But given he’s loved by cricket fans around the world – not just in New Zealand – it was hard not to feel a little sorry for the Black Caps skipper.
